EXCLUSIVE U.S. DEBUT OF GROUNDBREAKING FRENCH FURNITURE ARTIST
JACQUES JARRIGE AT VALERIE GOODMAN GALLERY

New York, September, 2010 -- Opening October 27th, 2010, acclaimed French Furniture and Lighting artist Jacques Jarrige will exhibit for the first time in the U.S. a collection of tables, stools, chandeliers and other lighting at Valerie Goodman Gallery, a European 20th Century and Contemporary Decorative Arts gallery located at 315 East 91st Street in New York City.

Jarrige calls himself an artist-artisan and with fantasy and skills reminiscent of Alexandre Noll or Jean Royere, he creates unexpected, unconventional, whimsical organic forms with both new and traditional materials such as bronze, aluminum, wood or glass. From his atelier in Paris which you will discover recreated at Valerie Goodman Gallery he bends, molds, carves, shapes and then finishes with bright colors, lacquers, inlays, gold leaf or patinas. Jacques Jarrige's search for balance between positive and negative space is on-going but he always has in mind the functional aspect of furniture. French critic Jerome Goddeau said "His pieces are always distinctive and timeless. With a smile, Jarrige imbues everyday objects with a unique sense of serenity and comfort"

Jacques Jarrige’s talent like so many prominent artists of the 1980’s including Garouste and Bonnetti or Eric Schmitt emerged from the scene of “En attendant les Barbares” gallery.
